Public health nurses will be in the downtown eastside tomorrow offering a pop-up flu shot clinic.
Viola Kaminski with Vancouver Coastal Health says the service to the neighborhood is crucial.
She says marginalized people often can’t or don’t’ access healthcare.
“We know from our experience that people on the downtown eastside don’t access regular healthcare like you or I may access it, so they’re not visiting clinics on a regular basis. So it’s important that they also too get immunized against the flu, just for their own safety and for the public’s safety.”
Kaminski says tomorrow’s event at the Pigeon Park market is just one of 90 clinics being offered in a two week blitz.
“The other ones have been in other locations, but this one has just been, we’re doing it out in the open, trying to attract people, get them down, and getting them immunized.”
Shots will be offered from 10:30 am until noon.
