Nanaimo RCMP are looking for witnesses after a three-and-a-half year old welsh pony was shot with an arrow.
Constable Gary O’Brien says it happened overnight, near a busy recreation area.
“The property is situated next to the main entrance to Linley Valley, a very popular spot for mountain bikers and park enthusiasts, but there’s nothing that’s ever happened to her animals before.”
O’Brien says how she got it has both the owner and police mystified.
“They didn’t find any other arrows in the area, nothing else to indicate someone was on the property, and it’s the first time she says it’s ever happened. She’s lived there for 51 years, so she’s absolutely shocked as to why this would happen now.”
O’Brien says they didn’t find the arrow, but have ruled out animal attacks.
The mare named Bliss is in pain but expected to make a full recovery.
