Westjet staff say they’ve cancelled flights as Hurricane Patricia bears down on the west coast of Mexico.
Spokesman Robert Palmer says a flight that was supposed to leave the Vancouver International Airport Friday morning was delayed until Saturday, then cancelled entirely.
He says he expects the airport in Puerto Vallarta will remain closed on Saturday as well.
In the meantime, he says the close to 300 customers stuck in the resort city have specific orders to deal with the strongest storm ever recorded in the Western hemisphere.
“Follow the hotel instructions rather than try to venture out on their own. When they do that, we lose track of them and we have no idea where they are or if they’re safe.”
Anyone trying to fly out is encouraged to follow up with their airline to check on their flight status.
