Abbotsford’s mayor says he’s looking closely at Victoria’s experience with managing homeless campers.
But Henry Braun says he has some major concerns after talking with the capitol’s mayor.
He says top of the list are cost — and the need to move campers daily.
“This is what we used to refer to in Abbotsford as the ‘Abbotsford shuffle.’ They would go from one park to another park, and now we’ve kind of legalized that through the courts. So I’m not sure this is exactly where we want to be.”
Victoria was forced to re-write its bylaws after a 2008 B-C Supreme court ruling found banning sleeping in parks was unconstitutional.
Braun says Abbotsford is now reviewing Victoria’s legal framework — after losing its own court battle.
