Earlier this week, homeless people living in a Maple Ridge park quietly packed up their belongings, and were moved into a temporary housing shelter, bringing a long-running municipal debate to somewhat of a close.
Maple Ridge Mayor Nicole Read says the past few months has been a learning process.
“We feel it’s a great success for the city, and proves working with homeless citizens in a manner steeped in respect and dignity really does achieve outcomes.”
The temporary shelter will close in March of next year. Read hopes by that point, permanent homes can be found for those living there.
