The City of Burnaby estimates it spent about $460,000 cleaning up after August’s major wind storm.
Deputy city manager Lambert Chu says that number is likely to rise, as clean up continues.
“Many may remember when we had a storm where Stanley Park sustained serious damage to trees. This one that happened August 29th caused more tree damages in Burnaby than that one a few years ago.”
Chu says most of the cash will go towards paying staff they had to call in when the storm hit.
He hopes some of that can be covered by Emergency Management BC.
The City of Surrey, meanwhile, spent $350,000 — and that was including costs incurred by fire, police or parks.
