Gregor Robertson says it’s not a matter of if, but when.
Vancouver’s mayor was talking about the construction of the Broadway subway line, as Justin Trudeau is set to be sworn in as Canada’s next Prime Minister.
“It’s certainly got a boost from the results of the Liberal majority. Mr. Trudeau was here announcing specific support for the Broadway subway extension of the Millennium Line, we need to put together the local business case for that.”
Robertson says the city has to figure out how to pay for its 1/3 of the capital costs, after the transit plebiscite failed earlier this year.
Options include a regional carbon tax or mobility pricing.
Robertson also says the city plans to stay the course on regulating pot shops, despite Trudeau’s promise to legalize marijuana.
“We are midstream implementing the new regulations for the marijuana dispensaries, so I expect that work will continue. We will see if we can get an early signal from the new Liberal government on their next moves.”
The mayor also welcomes Trudeau’s commitment to re-open the Kitsilano Coast Guard base.
