Charges have been essentially dropped against an RCMP officer in a shooting near Cranbrook.
Three years ago, a man driving an SUV in the community of Yahk was pulled over by an RCMP officer and hit by gunfire.
At the time, police say the vehicle was linked to a nearby carjacking.
Constable Richard Drought was charged with careless use of a firearm after an investigation by the police watchdog.
The Criminal Justice Branch says his trial had been underway in Cranbrook, when new evidence came to light.
As a result, the Crown prosecutor decided a conviction was no longer likely and stayed the charges.
