“At the end of the day, it’s the riders that are going to be affected.”
The head of the bus driver’s union is blasting the proposed routes changes put forth by TransLink.
Nathan Woods says route changes like the one proposed for 49th Avenue going through Champlain Heights will be the hardest hit.
“That is essentially going to be limited. There’s other routes; the 160 out of the Tri-Cities area won’t be going to downtown Vancouver, it’s truncated at Brentwood Station. Those are cuts.”
He says drivers have been trying to optimize bus routes for years, but adds that the Coast Mountain Bus company can only operate within their own funding.
Woods says these changes are cuts that will be ongoing and will directly impact bus riders, putting more cars on the road and creating more congestion on the Lower Mainland’s already congested streets.
