Next year marks the 30th anniversary of Expo ’86, and a Vancouver City Councillor wants to celebrate the occasion.
“I’m hoping that the city can get behind some sort of celebration to mark that 30th year.”
NPA Councillor George Affleck says he’s open to ideas as to what kind of celebration there should be.
“My motion is asking the city to look at partners. I think there are a lot of people that might be interested in this, whether it’s Tourism Vancouver or the province, the federal government… Who knows who might be interested, but thirty years is a big date and I’m hoping we can do this on a tight budget.”
Expo ’86 marked only the second time Canada held a World’s Fair and was opened with a visit from Prince Charles and Princess Diana.
