Demonstrators calling for action on affordable housing briefly took over East Hastings street in Vancouver this afternoon.
Heavy rain wasn’t enough to keep about 100 housing advocates and Downtown East Side residents from marching to call for affordable housing.
Rob Morgan says he was there because he’s fed up housing isn’t a federal election issue.
“The past 10, 15, 20 years the federal government has slashed on housing projects on the Downtown Eastside, and across Canada.”
Protestors say the neighbourhood is being rapidly gentrified – and that rents are now out of reach for people on welfare.
They’re calling for urgent construction of more social housing.
