Faculty at Simon Fraser University are the latest to add their names to the list of institutions opposing the Kinder Morgan Pipeline.
Professor of Communication at SFU, Bob Hackett, helped move this decision forward.
“The faculty association doesn’t normally take positions like this on political issues, but this one is such a major issue, with both local and global concerns…it affects so many of us both in terms of our workplace and our research, that this seems to be one that we really have to step to the plate.”
Hackett says faculty are concerned about the health and environmental risks surrounding the proposed pipeline.
He says as a resident of Burnaby, supporting this stance was an easy decision.
“This decision was almost unanimously supported by the membership.”
In September, the Chilliwack School board turned down a cash deal with Kinder Morgan, and earlier this month Kwantlen University refused scholarship money from the company.
