The Vancouver Canucks opened up the 2015/16 NHL season on a positive note, with a 5-1 win over the Calgary Flames.
Lots of new faces in the lineup Wednesday, with six new faces making their Canuck debuts.
Vancouver didn’t waste any time getting on the scoreboard, with Jannik Hansen opening the scoring with a laser beam over the shoulder of Karri Ramo midway through the first, and Brandon Sutter scoring in his debut, added to the scoring nearing the end of the period.
He’d finish the night with a goal and an assist.
Daniel and Henrik Sedin both tallied, so a productive night from the top line with 3 goals, as Brandon Sutter played his first professional hockey game on right wing.
Alex Burrows had the only other goal for the Canucks.
Two rookies cracked the opening night roster, Jared McCann centered the third line with Hansen and Burrows, and Ben Hutton was paired on defence with Luka Sbisa.
Juri Hudler scored the only goal for the Flames and Ryan Miller stopped 25 of 26 shots.
Vancouver doesn’t play until Saturday, when they play the Flames again, this time in Vancouver.
