“We’re thrilled to announce we just had our millionth visitor to the designer outlet.”
Nearly four months after opening its doors to the public, the McArthur Glen outlet near YVR Airport is experiencing success.
Allie Day with the outlet says business has been booming with the weak Canadian dollar attracting more customers.
“I think the loonie is definitely a contributing factor. I think a lot of people are noticing that tourism numbers in Vancouver are significantly higher than previous years and I think that’s definitely a part of it.”
Day says American shoppers have shown an inclination to buy.
“We have been seeing an increase in American visitors – mind you, we’ve only been open a little over three months – but we’ve seen approximately ten per cent of our traffic, especially on weekends, be U.S. visitors and particularly from Washington.”
Day estimates that on any given weekend since the outlet opened in July, as much as ten per cent of their business comes from visitors south of the border.
Beat the original target
Originally, it was forecast there would be 600,000 visitors by mid-September; the outlet just recently marked their one millionth.
Day anticipates business will pick up even more dramatically as the busy holiday season approaches.
