BC’s police watchdog is conducting a preliminary investigation into an incident that shut down the Pattullo Bridge Monday morning.
But a spokesperson says the public shouldn’t read too much into that.
New Westminster Police officers were called to the bridge at around 3 a.m. in relation to a person in distress.
That person did not survive.
The Independent Investigations Office says it conducts a significant number of preliminary investigations each year, and in around half of those cases, it chooses not to proceed.
Traffic resumed in both directions around 9 a.m.
