The City of Surrey has totalled up the cost of that massive windstorm at the end of August.
The engineering department’s Rob Costanzo says 198 trees fell on city property and the cleanup cost $350,000.
That doesn’t include costs from other departments such as fire, police or parks.
How will it affect the city’s bottom line?
“Typically, our storm response is associated with winter cleanup and our budget for this year is approximately $3.5 million. But given the very mild winter that we’ve had, we’ve only expended approximately 20 per cent of that budget, so it falls well within the realm of those costs.”
A portion of the cleanup bill may also be reimbursed by the provincial government.
