Vancouver has some new rules for recycling. You will soon be asked to put glass jars and bottles into a separate bin.
The changes are being rolled out in phases, with apartments and townhomes up first.
Single-family homes are next, in January.
It’s because of the city’s contract with a company called Multi-Materials BC. According to the Recycling Council of BC, glass can easily break during collection and transport, and then it becomes hard to sort from other recycled material.
Other changes include newspaper and mixed paper being accepted in the same mixed paper bin.
Paper cups, milk cartons, TetraPaks, non-paint aerosol cans and frozen dessert boxes can now be recycled in the mixed containers bin.
