It’s being touted as one of the largest technology announcements in Vancouver’s history.
Telus says it will invest a billion dollars to make Vancouver a gigabit-enabled city.
CEO Darren Entwistle says the cash, invested over five years, will connect as many as 400,000 homes to Telus’s fiber optic network.
The company says it’s among the most advanced communications infrastructure in the world, with unlimited capacity and unparalleled security in a cable the size of a pencil.
Entwistle says the move will not only connect families, but also foster economic growth.
Vancouver is ranked 20th in tech cities in North America.
Telus believes the investment will propel it into the top 10, and hopefully the top five.
