Canada’s election isn’t staying untouched from Russia’s airstrikes in Syria, according to one Canadian public policy think tank.
Russia says it is bombing Islamic State units in Syria amid claims it is actually targeting opponents of the Assad regime.
Meanwhile, Bob Murray from the Frontier Centre for Public Policy, says Vladimir Putin’s latest gambit actually strengthens Conservative Leader Stephen Harper in an election season.
“Russia is continually demonstrating what Harper has been saying for many years and it speaks very much to that Conservative policy. So it should be something Stephen Harper is able to take advantage of between now and election day.”
Murray says Russia wants the Assad regime to stay in power, a position at odds with the West.
