The Vancouver Park Board has approved the installation of a $450,000 piece of art to the new sports fields at Hastings Park.
The new art installation features two bleacher-like structures side-by-side, with the title “Home and Away”, paid for by the city.
The art piece caused countroversy before finally being approved at yesterday’s park board meeting.
Park board chair John Coupar says the public has now had the chance to weigh in on the proposal and it went through a rigorous approval process before moving forward.
“Generally in this case, it rings true to the history of Hastings park and mimics a little bit of the old Empire Stadium.”
“Home and Away” should be installed sometime next year and Coupar says the public can use the piece of art as they would bleachers at other sports fields.
