One man is dead after a brazen, targeted shooting at a strip mall on Vancouver’s west side.
Police say the parking lot at West 25th and Oak Street was packed with Sunday shoppers when a young man was gunned down in the passenger seat of a white Toyota.
Constable Brian Montague says the public nature of the shooing is particularly upsetting.
“It’s always disturbing when we see this kind of violence in the city. It’s unfortuante that we have individuals that are willing to take a gun and fire it in a very populated neighbourhood. It’s unacceptable.”
Montague says there were so many witnesses a bus was needed to collect them all and transport them for questioning at a police detachment.
“Many of them were clearly upset with what they had seen. Because this was a fairly busy area, lots of individuals shopping at the time, there are lots of witnesses.”
Officers are also questioning the Toyota’s driver, releasing few other details about either the victim, a motive, or possible suspect.
Members of the VPD Gang Crime Unit were at the scene.
