One of Vancouver’s longest running charities is marking 75 years of helping the city’s most needy.
The Union Gospel Mission turns 75 today.
President Bill Mollard says in that time UGM has served more than 10-million meals, a service at the heart of the mission.
“Every single meal went to somebody who was really struggling and vulnerable. And when somebody shows up with a meal, it just warms up inside, and they start thinking who is this person serving the meal, and before long they’ve started a conversation. And their lives just get turned around.”
Mollard says UGM has come a long way since it was founded by a 21-year-old on a budget of 25 dollars.
That growth is being celebrated at an event in Vancouver.
