Two Campbell River parents are racing against the clock trying to keep their severely autistic adult daughter closer to home.
In just one week, Louise Duguay and Ron Mailloux’s 20-year-old daughter, Gloria, must move from her Port Alberni care home.
Community Living BC has her set to move to emergency care in Victoria because of a lack of trained staff in Port Alberni.
“I just can’t even imagine her being totally separated from everybody she loved completely. Being in Port Alberni was pretty much that, but this is going to be worse.”
Duguay says it will be impossible for her and Mailloux to visit Victoria regularly.
She doesn’t understand why the money spent for her care in a Victoria suite can’t be used to keep her close to them.
Community Living BC says it is looking into the case.
