It’s not sexy, but it could have big implications for Metro Vancouver rate payers.
CUPE’s Metro Bargaining Coordinator Tom O’Leary says two days of contract negotiations with the City of Surrey are now underway.
“Our members and our bargaining committees and our locals are ready to get down to the hard work of negotiating fair and respectful collective agreements.”
It’s the first of the negotiations in Metro Vancouver to get started.
But O’Leary isn’t saying what the union will be looking for.
“Our members have identified priorities through bargaining terms they have given us a mandate on, and it just so happens that Surrey is the first to enter into those negotiations.”
Most of the current four-year contracts for workers in municipalities across Metro Vancouver expire at the end of this year.
