Following months of hype, Nordstrom opened downtown to hundreds of curious shoppers this morning.
So was the talk worth it?
Local fashion blogger Rachelle Hay says the store will provide a much needed shot-in-the-arm for Vancouver’s luxury retail scene, and could encourage others to join in.
“Coming here is actually going to help up the game of the rest of the city. So you’ve noticed a few other things pop up…a few other well known establishments, and I think that’s a sign that people here are starting to turn it on a bit more.”
Meanwhile Paula says Vancouver hasn’t seen much excitement happen in Vancouver’s retail scene, and says Nordstrom’s arrival has been a long time coming.
“To see an investment in a space like this, it’s…kind of fun.”
And Lilly’s been shopping in the city’s downtown for years. She says the wait for a new high end retail store has been worth it.
“We’ve seen the change in the building over quite a period of time, so I think it piqued people’s interest as to why it’s taken so long. So now we know.”
Vancouver’s is the third of six stores Nordstrom has announced it will open across Canada by 2017.
