“Go away, Conway!”
Those were the chants ringing outside an Abbotsford halfway house today.
The city wants convicted three-time sex offender James Conway removed from their neighbourhood immediately.
Parents and children chanting outside the home of Conway are hoping the city’s current zoning bylaws will have him removed.
The home where Conway resides in sits on agricultural land which permits residential use but does not permit business use like a halfway house.
Steve Markle lives near the halfway house and he says he’s had to make changes to his daily routine.
“Everybody has gates now, they are keeping their gates shut. But this whole area is connected to a network of ravines. It’s a causeway behind all these properties, if he wanted to move around.”
Some parents are even having to make changes to their daily routine.
“We’ve had to find alternate methods, we’re losing some wages in some cases because people are having to leave work early and arrive late in the morning, just to make sure kids are being taken to school safely”.
The city says they’ve been in contact with BC Corrections and the home operator to resolve the issue.
