North Vancouver RCMP have confirmed a drowning has claimed the life of one person in Lynn Canyon.
Sergeant Doug Trousdell says what began as a rescue operation turned into a recovery operation.
“District of North Vancouver Fire Department and North Vancouver RCMP have been in Lynn Canyon trying to rescue a young man who has been trapped underwater in the canyon. At this point he’s been underwater for an hour and we’ve now classified this as a recovery operation as opposed to a rescue. We are still on scene. We know where he is, but he’s trapped underwater and we’re not able to get to him at this time.”
Trousdell says RCMP have identified the victim, but are unable to release his name until his family is notified.
The search was called off for the night before a dive team recovered the body the next morning.
