New data compiled in the Canadian Rental Housing Index is backing sentiments that renters across all of Canada are feeling the pinch.
Figures claim over 40% of all renter households across the country are spending in excess of 30% of their income on rent.
The interactive map from the Canadian Rental Housing Index show’s even more alarming data in B.C., where more than 50% of incomes are being spent on rent.
That puts them in the category of “crisis level of spending”.
In a release, Tony Roy with the BC Non-Profit Housing Association says the problem is compounded by the lack of federal action on rental housing, adding the problem will only get worse before it gets better.
