A first-day headache for some returning SFU students.
Most who took summer courses don’t have their final grades, leading to complications registering for fall semester courses.
Because the Teaching Support Staff Union is in a heated dispute with the University.
It’s withholding grades as a negotiating tactic.
The union’s George Temple says it was a last resort.
“Our goal has always been to minimize impact on students, but after 16 months at the table, with the SFU administration still refusing to bargain in good faith on our core issues, we didn’t have another option.”
Members also formed their first picket line today, for the first time in 16 months.
Both sides have entered into marathon bargaining in the hopes of reaching a deal.
Mediator Vince Ready will be brought in Friday if there’s an impasse.
