While the storm has been a major headache for most people, there’s a possible silver lining from all of the storm damage: free wood.
Vancouver Deputy City Manager Sadhu Johnston says it’s up for grabs; some of it beautiful hardwood.
“We certainly want to get more of that being used for productive purposes. Art, wood working, things like that. So it’s a lot of material and it’s really unique wood. It’s hard to find those kinds of resources.”
“Some of the size of those logs… We’ve gotten a number of requests from people saying ‘How do I get my hands on one’… Well, go get it!”
Johnston says residents have already started clearing it away themselves to use for firewood.
The remained is being stored in empty parking lots until it’s claimed or chipped down for use by the city.
