Now that the worst of the power outages are over, the head of BC Hydro is addressing customers concerns.
Many of the biggest frustrations have been with the way in which the outages were communicated, or not communicated, when the power company’s website went down at 1;00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon – just as the worst of the storm hit.
President and CEO Jessica McDonald spoke to CKNW host Simi Sara.
“We have to get to the root cause of how it is that our website could go down – something that’s never happened before – and at this point is unexplained and we will not stop with the investigation until we get to the bottom of that. As we’re rebuilding the system and ensuring that it’s completely stable for the future, we will be building in redundancies so that this either will never happen again or, if it should happen again, we have an immediate back up.”
McDonald says they’ll build in redundancies in the future should this kind of worst case scenario happen again.
“Some small consolation to people who I’m sure were frustrated with the lack of communication, that it did not in any way slow down any re-connections or the restoration response.”
