It’s going to be a wet weekend for Metro Vancouver.
Environment Canada has upgraded its special weather statement- to a warning.
Forecaster Greg Pierce says the North Shore and Howe Sound will be hit hardest- with up to 80mm of rain.
“It is unusual for August to see this kind of a storm. These are the kind of systems that we usually see later on in October and November. To see it in late August is abit of a surprise to us, especially after the long dry hot summer that we have endured so far.”
He says Metro Vancouver saw only 45mm of rainfall TOTAL since late May, so the major storm could dump double the entire summer’s worth of the wet stuff this weekend.
Officials are also warning about the potential for flash flooding.
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure put out a statement, urging drivers to take caution on the slippery roads.
