Vancouver police have charged three women after several victims were scammed out of up to $12,000 in cash and jewelry.
It’s called a blessing scam.
Victims were approached on the street, police say, told an evil spirit is following them, and only a blessing ceremony would scare them away.
They’re told to put their money and jewelry in a bag to be blessed and not to re-open it for several days.
But when they finally do, their belongings are long gone.
A similar scam was reported in 2013.
The three suspects are charged with extortion and fraud.
The VPD is asking anyone else who was duped to come forward.
