Researchers in the Netherlands recently completed a study on the emotional effect that crying can have on mood. Specifically, what happens to people who cry while watching a film.
The pilot study rated the moods of 60 people while watching two different movies; Life is Beautiful, and Hachi: A Dog’s Tale. Ultimately, the study found that people who cry during movies end up benefiting from an emotional boost.
The hitch is that immediately after crying, participants first felt depressed, then recovered to a state of equilibrium, and finally experienced an emotional boost after about 90 minutes. Those who didn’t react emotionally to the movies experienced no change in mood.
We decided to test the theory and pulled together ten Youtube videos that brought us to tears. We advise that you have some tissues handy before watching.
