Finally some good news on the Rock Creek wildfire.
Fire information officer Mike McCulley says for the first time crews have achieved some containment on the massive blaze.
“We have a new fire size. The fire is now estimated at 4,013 hectares. The fire has grown a little bit over the last few days and we have also done some better mapping, which can give us some more detail on the actual size, so the fire has grown a shade. We are happy to tell you that we now have a 25-per-cent containment on the fire.”
McCulley says Wednesday could be challenging again with hot dry weather and no rain in sight.
“We are seeing very low humidity at night. That doesn’t offer us a lot of recovery we call it. Still very warm and dry conditions here maybe some slightly higher winds today as well. We will be watching those conditions very closely and continuing to focus our crews in areas that we need them to try and get a better handle on the containment.”
He adds no more homes have been lost after the flames claimed 30 houses and 15 other buildings.
