Federal NDP Leader Tom Mulcair stopped in Surrey on Wednesday, making a campaign announcement to bring in more police officers.
Mulcair says he would increase funding to public safety to set up 2,500 new police officers on the streets, if elected in October.
The leader was also asked what he thought about political candidates’ activities on social media, in light of a Liberal contender in Calgary stepping back from the race because of posts she made on Twitter.
“I think that you have to look at what somebody has said in their career, and if it is offensive, it’s either going to be something that they are going to explain, or the party is going to have to ask some tough questions.”
Of Surrey’s four main ridings, two are currently held by the Conservatives, two by the NDP.
