A Calgary teen who nearly died after taking a Oxycontin laced with fentanyl is making an unexpected recovery and his dad couldn’t be more relieved.
Last week, doctors told Reg Hampton, who used to be a broadcaster in B.C., that his 18-year-old son, Anthony, had severe brain damage and that his prognosis was uncertain.
Since then, Hampton says his improvement has been dramatic.
He says it’s clear Anthony understands what’s happening around him because he suddenly said he didn’t intend to take the potent drug.
“A tear kind of rolled down his right cheek and he said, ‘I am sorry’ and I just said, ‘Anthony, don’t worry about being sorry right now. We’re just so happy you are with us and just get better.'”
Hampton says Anthony will soon move to a special unit for people recovering from brain injuries.
