The faculty association at UBC is calling for the chair of the board of governors to resign in the wake of the school president’s sudden exit.
In a letter to members, association president Mark MacLean says John Montalbano has confused his personal interests with the university’s.
And in particular, he says he is concerned with statements the chair made to the media.
On Thursday, Montalbano publicly defended himself against allegations he tried to silence a professor who’d criticize the school after Arvind Gupta announced he was leaving after less than a year into his five-year term.
MacLean says the defense sidesteps the standard grievance process, and contradicts statements he made earlier that commenting would be inappropriate until the grievance process was over.
