The B.C. Coroner’s Service has called a public inquest into the deaths of three mental health patients who died shortly after they left the Abbotsford Regional Hospital.
Coroner Barb McLintock says Brian David Geisheimer, Sarah Louise Charles, and Sebastian Pavid Abdi all died at or near their homes between December of 2014 and April of 2015.
“Three cases that in some way seem to be unrelated. They didn’t die in the same place or the same time, but all three of them had been very recently, like within the last 48 hours leading up to thier deaths, been patients being treated for their mental health issues.”
“We’re now allowed under our legislation to hold a single inquest in cases like that where the issues are similar enough even though they’re different incidents, that it could be valuable to hold one inquest, look at them as a system, and perhaps get a jury to make some very good recommendation.”
McLintock says the jury inquest will take place next May, and make recommendations to prevent future similar deaths.
