The tough fire week for Oliver just won’t quit.
Highway 97 is currently closed a half-kilometer North of the town as fire crews respond to a structure fire.
The Oliver Fire Department says it was a company that built roof trusses – and it’s a total loss.
No word on the cause of the fire or how long traffic will be re-routed.
Residents told to stay away from Testalinden blaze
Wildfire officials say people are putting lives at risk by trying to get close to the Testalinden fire.
Fire information officer Noelle Kekula says they’ve had to impose a “restricted area order” banning people from a large area of crown land southwest of Oliver.
Kekula says that’s because if people are in the fire zone when conditions worsen – they could get left behind.
“It’s common in the afternoon for the winds to pick up and we know where all our crews are. So we always check in with our crews. We know where everybody is that’s working on the fire.”
The Testalinden Creek fire remains 40 percent contained – while the Wilson’s Mountain fire north of Oliver is 70 percent contained.
