A former KGB agent who spent six years holed up in a Vancouver church to avoid being deported to Russia has surrendered and returned to his home country.
Mikhail Lennikov voluntarily left First Lutheran Church this week after negotiations with the CBSA.
His immigration lawyer tells Global News he reached the decision himself, adding his client feels he will be safe in Russia.
Lennikov was ordered deported in 2009 because of his KGB ties but feared being tried for treason in Russia, taking sanctuary in the church a day before the order was issued.
