The BC Government has begun selling off its social housing properties to the non-profit sector — and resident say they’re concerned.
BC Housing announced this week that Vancouver’s Stamps Place would go to the New Chelsea Society.
Guy Wakeman is a resident and father of two — and says he’s worried about his new landlords.
“These non profits have their own board of directors, most of them don’t allow for a tenants committee, or a council like we have. There
s no accountability and no transparency.”
Wakeman says he’s also worried about future development of the site.
BC Housing announced last year it would sell up to 350 social housing properties to registered non-profits.
The province insists there will be no change in rents or loss of units.
