It was a close call in the heart of wine country.
Popular Oliver winery Road 13 is business as usual today, but it was a very different story Friday night.
Worker Laura Luckhurst says a team of volunteers and employees ignored an evacuation order to protect their livelihood; dousing their winery and executive lounge in water, and using the over head sprinklers to keep the fire at bay.
Luckhurst says she didn’t have time to be scared.
“It was surreal, if anything else. We really didn’t know what was going to happen. But it just seemed like everyone was taking it in stride. We didn’t know which way the wind was going to blow, and it’s really unpredictable…there’s no way of knowing.”
Luckhurst says the flames came within 20 feet.
