Fifty-seven sickly, and in some cases, malnourished animals were seized from a farm in Cloverdale this week.
It followed a BC SPCA investigation into complaints of animal neglect.
The BC SPCA’s Marcie Moriarty confirmed that thirty-five dogs; including golden retrievers, Dalmatians, Pomeranians and other medium and small breeds, 16 horses and six cats are now in SPCA care.
The animals were malnourished, with no proper access to food, water or shelter. The horses were also suffering from chipped, cracked and overgrown hooves.
“The greatest concern were the horses; a number of the horses, including one particular pony, were extremely emaciated and they will need immediate veterinary treatment.”
Moriarty says it’s fair to call this a case of animal “hoarding’, and charges are a possibility.
