A fatal shooting in Burnaby this morning.
A lot of details are still unclear at this point.
But Burnaby RCMP are now confirming the shooting saying officers responded to a shots fired call at 10:30am.
The Mounties say when they arrived on the scene in the 4600 block of Midlawn Drive they found a man with gunshot wounds.
Police say the man was treated at the scene but died from his injuries.
Burnaby RCMP say they area will be behind police tape for a while as they gather evidence.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has also been called in and is on scene.
Neighbours reported hearing the gunshots this morning.
“We were just here and we heard some noises from the guns; we thought it was fireworks or something like that. It was like twelve shots; first there were six and then were six more.”
“Everyone started to go that way from the other side, and there was someone laying down right there.”
One woman who’s been living in the neighbourhood since 1960 says what troubles her is there easily could’ve been kids closeby.
“This is getting scary, especially when we have a supervisor here on Tuesdays and Thursdays and we get lots of kids here.”
She says in her 50-plus years of living in the area, she had never encountered a shooting so close to home.
Of note: there were two different film production crews nearby filming on location at the time of the shooting.
They have since been told by RCMP their work is going to have to be cut short for the day.
