RCMP in Burnaby say it is unclear whether the overdose death of a woman last night is connected to fentanyl.
The region has seen a string of deaths linked to the opioid.
This past weekend Vancouver reported 16 overdoses, with six in the span of a single hour on Sunday.
Mounties say the woman’s death last night is believed to be a heroin overdose, however only testing can confirm whether that heroin was laced with fentanyl.
Law enforcement officials have been warning drug users to exercise extreme caution, because of the high number of fentanyl-related overdoses in the region.
