UPDATE: A state of emergency has been declared in St. Louis County after civil unrest broke out in front a federal courthouse. About 50 protestors, including civil rights activist Cornel West, have been arrested.
A year after 18-year-old Michael Brown was shot and killed by police in Ferguson, Missouri – sparking nation-wide protests – another 18-year-old black man has been shot.
According to CBS News, a day of peaceful rallies in Ferguson ended yesterday when gunfire was heard just before midnight.
Tyrone Harris is accused of opening fire on a police vehicle, after which he was critically injured after being shot by police. Today, 10 charges were laid against Harris, including armed criminal action, first-degree assault on a police officer and possessing a firearm.
Harris remains in hospital in critical condition.
