Vancouver’s new Happy Hour laws may be helpful economically, but a new study says it leads to higher crime, injury and even death.
The Director of the Centre for Addiction Research,Tim Stockwell, says they looked at Happy Hour prices at thirty different bars, restaurants and pubs in Victoria.
“You know, if there’s a ten percent increase in the minimum price, a lot of the harms are going down eight or nine percent. It’s just upward pressure on how much we drink, and when that happens, it’s upward pressure on how many people go to hospital and wrap their cars around lampposts and get into stupid fights on a Saturday night.”
Stockwell also says Happy Hour has the potential to worsen society’s drinking habits.
