One of the biggest meteor showers of the year will reach its peak and dazzle the night sky starting tonight.
The Perseid Meteor Shower will be so bright at night, binoculars won’t be necessary to see it.
Astronomer at the HR MacMillian Centre – Derek Kief – says the shower will be visible throughout Metro Vancouver.
“It’s definitely one of those things we enjoy celebrating, it’s kind of a big celebration of looking up at the sky, and we are always excited for that.”
He suggests getting outside of the downtown core for the best view.
“In the actual downtown city, you might be lucky and get some of them, but you do need to go somewhere that’s a little bit less than looking straight up at the lights. Some of the suburbs would be fine, I’m out at Kits, and there’s a couple of good parks here that I’ve seen them before, and they were great.”
Although this week is the peak for the shower, it will continue until August 24th.
