The North Shore Rescue team may be performing a unique rescue later this month.
Salmon heading down Seymour River to spawn will be stranded after a rockslide there late last year.
Team leader Mike Danks says the team will build a rope system to scoop salmon out of the river and put them safely back in after the blocked area.
“It’s a really positive thing for North Shore Rescue, we do a lot of dog rescues, so why not give a salmon rescue a try.”
“Basically what we are going to be setting up is a tensioned set of rope. So we aren’t going to be transferring any people on the highline, but we are going to be transferring the fish.”
The team will find out what day the rescue will take place at a meeting on Tuesday.
